When supplies were limited - hardware, books, early boxed-copies of games - it made sense to pre-order. We reserved copies, they printed for demand, and retailers had an assurance that their stock would sell. Today, the games industry still embraces pre-ordering, but for none of the above. Pre-ordering has just become an over-incentivized money-grab. And it’s getting worse.
