Crunch periods in the industry are so ubiquitous that their existence is matter-of-fact rather than a questionable practice. Oftentimes, salaried developers are required to work overtime with no additional compensation and for weeks or months at a time. And, for unsuccessful games, these same developers are given pink slips rather than bonuses for their hard work.
